Gampaha Magistrate Bandula Gunaratne has forwarded the case file—pertaining to the initiation of legal proceedings against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for contempt of court—to the President of the Court of Appeal.
This follows a determination that the IGP has committed contempt of court by failing to implement court orders.
The decision to initiate these proceedings stems from the finding that the IGP has brought the court into disrepute by failing to comply with orders issued in relation to two drug-related cases; it further appears that the IGP has attempted to mislead the court.
