The tenure of the Parliamentary Select Committee tasked with investigating and reporting on the release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port without undergoing mandatory physical inspection, as well as presenting proposals and recommendations regarding the matter has been extended.
Accordingly, the committee’s term has been extended until December 21, 2026. The committee was established via a motion adopted on November 19, 2025; the motion for this extension notes that the Select Committee requires additional time to submit its report to Parliament on the subject.
The motion for this extension was included in today’s (October 20) Parliamentary Order Paper and was presented by the Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Rathnayake.
