According to a statement issued by the Department of Meteorology, a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka has developed into a low-pressure area. Consequently, due to the influence of this system, rainfall is expected to increase today (22) across the island, as well as in the deep and shallow sea areas surrounding the island.
The public, including the fishing and naval communities, is requested to remain attentive to future forecasts and announcements issued by the Department of Meteorology regarding this situation.
Intermittent rain or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Mannar District, where skies will remain mostly cloudy.
In other parts of the island, rain or thundershowers may occur after 1:00 PM.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm may occur in some locations within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces. The public is kindly requested to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from lightning and temporary strong winds that may accompany thundershowers.
